2024 Year in Review

2024 Year in Review

As 2024 draws to a close, we want to extend our gratitude to everyone who collaborated with HSC&A this year.

Together, we celebrated a landmark year, deepening our mission to support artists through public exhibitions, professional development & private sales.

Exhibitions

We kicked off the year with Raw Material, an ensemble of work by some of LA’s most beloved ceramic artists. In the spring we opened Seguimos: Contemporary Art in Costa Rica at Craig Krull Gallery, featuring 13 contemporary artists, many of whom had not previously shown in the US. We closed out the year with our first exclusively online exhibition—Gina Zycher: I Forgot Where I Was Going With This—a collection of ceramics exploring the artist’s relationship to anxiety through the medium of ceramic and surface design.

Celebrating Global Talent

This year, we strengthened our ties to the vibrant Costa Rican art scene. From insightful studio visits with artists like Isaac Loría and Johanna Van Parijs, to receiving recognition in La Nación for championing Costa Rican artists, it has been a profound year of connection and discovery.

In 2024 alone we visited over 30 artist studios throughout the Central Valley and Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, as part of our ongoing efforts to deepen our connection to contemporary artists working in this unique place.

We are honored to have funded six months of programming at satis.FACTORY Casa de Arte, supporting creative initiatives that promote innovation and inclusivity in Costa Rica, Central America and beyond. In spring 2025, HSC&A and satis.FACTORY will proudly launch a new month-long artist-in-residence program, offering an LA based Latinx artist the opportunity to immerse themselves in local Costa Rican culture while developing a new body of work.

Our recently launched series of Instagram Live events offered glimpses into dynamic studio spaces and cultural venues, like Alia Malley's New Mexico abode and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in San José, Costa Rica where we toured the solo exhibition of Katrin Aason B. These unique, virtual gatherings fostered meaningful conversations about art and its relationship to place.

We are thrilled to celebrate Costa Rican photographer Matías Sauter Morera’s incredible achievements this year, including his inclusion in ARTnews and his insightful online artist talk hosted by Photographic Arts Council Los Angeles (PAC LA). PAC LA produces dynamic conversations and offers new perspectives on the photographic medium, bringing together artists, collectors, and enthusiasts alike. In 2025 HSC&A will collaborate with PAC LA to present online talks and Instagram Live events in honor of their forthcoming Year of the Woman. These virtual events are designed to connect new audiences to women artists working in photography.

Throughout the year we placed works of photography, painting and ceramics into prominent museum exhibitions and collections, including Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Norton Museum of Art, the Bunker Artspace, and the J. Paul Getty Museum—a testament to our commitment to building bridges between artists and esteemed cultural institutions.

Cultural Partnerships

This year, we joined forces with Art Division, a cornerstone of Los Angeles arts education. As the Director of Development (Hannah) and Marketing Director (Diana), we’ve supported this remarkable non-profit in its mission to empower the next generation of LA artists.

Art Division provides free arts education, career training, and essential support services to young adults from historically under-resourced and underrepresented communities. Our work with Art Division underscores our shared dedication to fostering community engagement and creating pathways for aspiring artists to build meaningful careers in the arts.

Looking Ahead to 2025

Next year, we’re excited to introduce more programming designed to connect you with artists’ practices and expand our geographical scope to include Nicaragua and Guatemala. We are especially committed to highlighting the voices of women artists from underrepresented communities, ensuring their work receives the platform it deserves.

We will also continue growing our community partnerships, with plans for more exhibitions, public-facing programs, and educational initiatives.
